Follow-up examinations
Specific follow-up examinations are prescribed in the operating license of the Proton Centre. Accordingly, your attending physician at the RPTC will organize this basic programme, either in cooperation with your general practitioner or with the referring physician. Very specific follow-up examinations are also necessary, depending on the cancer, such as in a consultation with a urologist for prostate cancer.
There is also a relatively large number of local examination programmes, which in Germany are generally grouped under organizations like "Tumorzentrum München.” Tumour centres like this will make proposals for detailed and medically based follow-up programmes.
You will be informed of all the details related to the prescribed or recommended follow-up examinations when you have a discharge consultation with your physician. Concurrently, a discharge summary will be sent to the personal physicians you‘ve designated. These letters will provide precise details for your ongoing treatment.
You, as the patient, also have a role to play. It is important that you provide feedback on how your treatment is proceeding. Each radiotherapy centre must receive the data from your follow-up examinations. This is important for the self-checking of the Proton Therapy Centre, as well as for your safety and the benefit of future patients.
