Proton Scanning - The Most Modern Form of Radiotherapy
The RPTC in Munich has the world’s first system specifically designed and optimized for scanning at all four fully movable therapy stations (gantries). This is why the RPTC irradiates more patients using the optimal scanning method than any other institution worldwide.
Worldwide, all proton facilities currently planned or under construction will also use scanning technology.
Using the scanning method, the beam scans the tumor in a grid-like fashion with the utmost precision, with up to 10,000 target points in the tumor. The beam’s depth of penetration is controlled using variable beam energy. This is the only method that strictly confines the therapy dose, and thus the maximum dose, to the tumor.
