The RINECKER PROTON THERAPY CENTER

The RPTC, located in Munich, is the first fully certified European proton radiation center which provides a complete hospital setting for the treatment of cancer tumors.

Our innovative therapeutic procedure involves the use of high-energy proton beams for the treatment of cancer. A key characteristic of these proton beams is that protons facilitate the three-dimensional targeting of tumours; this capability is not available with the x-rays used in conventional radiation therapy. Therefore, highly effective dosages can be delivered to the tumour while the side effects of radiation are reduced by minimizing any trauma to the surrounding healthy tissue.

ALL FOUR GANTRIES CLINICALLY OPERATIONAL NOW!

The forth and last of our therapy rooms with the large mobile gantries for irradiation of all parts of the body has become clinically operational. The completion, official tests and certification we had already published. Now the RPTC is treating patients on all major therapy sites!
 
The residual completion works are now concentrated on tumor localisation devices at the fifth smaller therapy site (fixed-beam-room), which is intended for the irradiation of eye melanomas and very small intracranial tumors. The proton technology of this smaller equipment is already completed; intended is to improve the local positioning compared to standards up to now by using MRI´s and CT´s combined.
 
Simultaneously the producer of our proton equipment (Varian Medical Systems, Palo Alto, USA) optimizes the software. The proton equipment has already fulfilled all specifications concerning patient- and radiation safety, therapeutic performance (beam intensity, beam penetration, beam precision and beam control precision). As well as treatment capacity specifications (time used per patient, gantry-to-gantry beam relocation interval). The ongoing software developments will indeed further improve the treatment precision compared to the original specifications and will make it even more comfortable to work with the equipment.
